Innovative GITUMA Student Lab: Hands-On Passion for Technology at Armin-Knab-Gymnasium

At the GITUMA lab, students from Armin-Knab-Gymnasium combine theory and practice to experience foundry technology and metalworking first-hand – supported by REITEL Feinwerktechnik and local partners.

Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting the innovative GITUMA student lab (Foundry Technology and Metalworking) at Armin-Knab-Gymnasium in Kitzingen. This exceptional lab offers students a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in foundry technology and metalworking.

In GITUMA, students independently design models, create molds, and carry out complex metallurgical and 3D printing processes. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including CAD software, 3D printers, X-ray spectroscopy for material analysis, and CO₂ lasers for versatile applications. These hands-on experiences help students understand the physical properties of metals and develop their technical skills.

“The projects not only enhance technical understanding but also create a valuable link between theory and practice,” explains Mr. Schwab, head of the school project. Another highlight is the collaboration with local companies such as Franken GUSS GmbH & Co. KG, giving students insights into the professional world and potential career paths in the technical field.

We, at REITEL Feinwerktechnik GmbH, are proud to support the project with our equipment, either provided at discounted rates or as donations. This allows students to scan models and process them using vacuum casting – an essential step in foundry technology.

Our visit clearly demonstrated how inspiring and motivating it is for young people to experience science and technology in a practical context. The GITUMA student lab is a shining example of how education and industry can successfully collaborate to nurture the next generation of technical professionals.
